No Big Thoughts

No Big Thoughts- Just Fun Little Ones

I was remembering a song over the past few days that mentioned "jean luc picard" in it. I found out through some googling that the name of the song is "Banditos" by the Refreshments. If you care to hear a clip, it's on Amazon, check it out. You'll be brought back to the late '90s. And the jean luc picard reference... priceless. Anyone else know this song?

I've also started reading two books lately on widely different subjects, but both very good. The first I started a few weeks ago and am going to read with my wife. "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus." Wow! I've got a lot to learn.

The other is an interesting book by Bruce Feiler called "Walking the Bible." While the name might be a little misleading (according to his own writing he mostly drives places), he visits the places that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses visited in all of their travels, gives background to the area, descriptions that are out of this world, and throws in current culture and thoughts to spice the discussions up.

One interesting fact I found out from this book so far is that the Temple built by Solomon was placed there by his father David because it was believed that it was the place that Abraham did not have to sacrifice his son because God intervened with a ram which allowed Israel to eventually become a nation. Now that one site has become the centerpoint for three major religions all stemming from that same story (Judaism, Christianity- Christ reappeared there, and Islam- claims Abraham as father of their faith also.) So far, a theme of Feiler's has been the "land" is what is the draw for all these religions and brings out the faith in people. Just being there changes your thoughts and feelings towards God.

That's my thoughts as I was driving this week. What are yours?

Still to Come (I promise): What's scarier: Halloween or Methodists talking about GLBT issues?
