This article was a great summary of the UM church and it's beginnings to translate faith into a postmodern world. Yes, that word is overused and misunderstood, but the fact remains that our culture is transitioning (possibly already transitioned) from where it was even 10 years ago. How will we be incarnational (i.e. Christ-like) to the world around us?
One interesting specific solution is texting the preacher during the sermon (Rev. Laurvick keeps his Iphone in hand while walking through the room and preaching). People send encouraging comments, questions, ask for clarifications, etc.
Could you see yourself texting the preacher? Or if you would be in the preacher role, could you multi-task and interact with people while preaching? This would definitely call for much better preparation for sermons than is sometimes given.
