My friend (who obviously thinks the world revolves around him) once quipped that we would each get one question to ask God when we enter heaven. He proceeded to ask me what mine would be? I'm not sure what I came up with, but my friend certainly wanted to know: who was Theophilus? If know your Bible, then you might remember that Theophilus is the person whom Luke wrote his gospel and Acts to.
Maybe I can clear the way for my friend to ask some other important questions, like "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop"?
*Please note: All of the following are theories, not provable by definite evidence (I don't want to mislead), but they are educated theories based on circumstantial information.
In Luke 1:3 (NIV), we read, "... since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus..."
According to my New Testament professor, the phrase "most excellent" was a technical term for a member of an equestrian order (who were were pretty high up in the hierarchy of the Roman world, even though Jewish). These equestrians eventually found their way into high status roles, many lawyers. This has led some to theorize that Theophilus was a lawyer who would defend Paul (whom Luke was traveling with) in front of Paul's trial in front of the emperor. This could mean that Luke-Acts is a preparation for the defense (which lines up with the fact Acts ends before the Paul's fate has been determined.)
So, what would be a question you would like to ask God? You need to think about it now, because if you only get one question, then you don't want to waste it on: "Hey God, can I ask you a question?"
I think a serious question I'd like to ask God would be: If we are to be stewards of the earth, why Antarctica????
In other news: saw Jet Li's "Fearless". I don't know if it's still playing in your area, but if you even have a little love of martial arts, foreign films, great acting, or amazing scenery- you need to see this movie. One of the best movies I've seen in a while!!!
And.... The Cardinals won.... what happened Mets???

Came across this after posting last night:
someone has actually done scientific testing on how many licks it takes to get to the center of the tootsie roll pop (http://www.tootsie.com/memoriesLicksMachine.html)
