The Glory of "Glory Road"

This past weekend I saw "Glory Road" with the guys in our youth ministry. This movie is destined to become one of the great sports movies of all time. It seems that of all sports, basketball is the hardest to portray honestly onto the movie screen and has been done the least (of football, baseball, and basketball- maybe even golf). Either the basketball scenes are at half-speed so the actors/actresses can do all the fancy stuff (i.e. The Pistol) or the characters are too advanced for their age (i.e. Coach Carter). There's usually not a happy medium.

Fortunately, "Glory Road" lived up to Producer Jerry Bruckheimer's past works. The action is great; the quality is great; the acting is great; and the hard issues of racism/prejudice are not backed down from, but are neither glorified or overdone.

The only thing that remains is whether I will leave this as a great movie or really try and assess my relationships with people of all races and see if I am treating them with dignity and respect- even when I'm not around them.

Truck Update: With a little help from the Smashing Pumpkins: "The impossible is possible tonight Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight"... maybe my truck will be healed after we excise this cancerous slave cylinder from the transmission and transplant a new one in. Hey, if "Pimp My Ride" is reading... I'd sure love to have my truck be on your show!
