Our Trip to Louisville

Joanna and I travelled to Louisville on Friday night, got up the next morning and visited the Zoo, followed by the Louisville Slugger Museum, and topped it all off by watching Thunder Over Louisville.

Catching Up On Photos: ice storm (aka "tree falls down" or "birds love the snow")

Kentucky had a bad ice storm recently and we got some interesting/good shots from it. We also lost our crab-apple tree that was in our front yard to ice. Strangely enough, it didn't make very much noise when it fell, unlike all the others that cracked and snapped all around us. There was just a small amount of creaking and I actually thought Joanna was walking down our hallway for a moment before realizing she was asleep in bed. I looked out the window and realized the last of the three trunks on our tree had fallen down. Thank goodness none of them hit anything other than the ground and didn't do any damage!

Catching Up On Photos: ultrasound pics

I've posted pics of our baby before, but Joanna had to return to the ultrasound technician because during the 2nd trip, the lady did not get all the "shots" that are required. Catching Up On Photos: Birthday and GA Tech

These are pictures from the Georgia Tech game. My dad and I went together and was a great time to bond, experience a shared passion, and eat at the Varsity.

I Like the month of June

Joanna is 13 weeks pregnant (that means the first week in June there will be a "baby DanJo" crying and sleeping).
And Joanna hasn't had any nausea yet, though she is extremely tired! I have found myself "sympathy eating"... or at least that's my excuse for eating bigger lately.

stupid human tricks

I have one "stupid human trick" (however, there are lots of stupid things I've done that I can tell you about). Here it is:

Yes, I am touching my pinky to the back of my hand. I used to be able to do all four fingers (minus the thumb), but now it hurts too bad because of lack of practice. Is there any way this could lead to a scholarship or notoriety (maybe Guinness Book of World Records)?

This is in response to one of the crazy conversations that occurs on Mandy's blog on a daily basis, though I admit it's a few weeks after the fact.

So, do you have any "stupid human tricks" or something that might get you into the GBWR?

(Personal Note: I've never been diagnosed with "double-jointedness" so don't ask!)

church picnic

A few weeks ago, I helped organize a church picnic which turned out to be a success. Food was eaten, fellowship was had, and in the kids vs. adults kickball game - I came out fighting:

Wait, before you go and report me to the church staff committee for being a little too serious about a game with kids... I was on the kids team. Hey, the adults had it coming!!

I-75 fun

After a fun time at my in-laws, we traveled down to Warner Robins to visit my side of the family for a couple days. However, as we were approaching mile marker 186, shortly after Exit 185 ("to Gray"), I had to hang up on my dad because an awful noise and rumbling scared us to death. Apparantly, after 5 years, all tires are considered "in need of being replaced" because the body of the tire (i.e. not the tread) is cracked and will separate on Georgia pavement where the temperatures reach up to 130 degrees. Our tire had unraveled and we could see pieces of it flying off behind us along I-75. I was so focused on getting the tire changed, I didn't even realize that Joanna had taken pictures of me until I was looking through our pictures later that night. We ended up getting a nice new set of tires and a speeding ticket on our way back up to Kentucky (FYI: I-75/I-40 in Knoxville is 55, not 65). First speeding ticket ever! What a fun driving experience.

family from far away

... well, if you consider wisconsin far away. It is for us as we hadn't seen our neice, and she was born almost 3 years ago (though we did see a few of her siblings last summer). Joanna's side of the family was in full force at her parent's house the first weekend in August. Here are the many pictures we took during this time in Powder Springs, GA.

Kentucky is Interesting

After the wonderful cookout the previous day, my family traveled to Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, which is the site of the last battle of the Revolutionary War (Daniel Boone's son was killed there) and a museum holding mastadon bones and information about this battle. I am holding a mastadon tooth next to my head in this picture.


After this, we traveled to Shaker Village and took a ride down the Kentucky River on the Dixie Belle. Lots of fun!

Due to some technical issues with Blogger, I haven't been able to update every day like I wanted to, but rest assured, I am back on track [and even have an extra days worth of pictures now...].
On July 27, my parents came into town and we invited Chris and Liz Logan (and Aurora) to come over and meet, eat, and play. Thanks to the Vodicka's, we were also able to enjoy the weather outside by playing ladder toss bolo! We had a great time. You can view many more pictures from the evening in the upper right corner of my blog. [this will be true of each of my picture updates for the next week]

too many days

Since I have been very busy with Hebrew, work, traveling to GA to see family, and in general doing many things... I have neglected the faithful readers of my blog. For the next week, I will be posting pictures every day (6 days, the 7th is rest) to let you know what has been going on in my life. First up, Joanna and I had our anniversary at the end of last month (July 27th) and we celebrated on Friday night, the 25th. She arranged a little fun with balloons. In each there were options for what we could do to celebrate (bowling and swing dancing were two of the options).

Can I just say that I HATE popping balloons. It scares the crap out of me, even if I know it's coming and am doing it myself. The last picture was an attempt that failed because I prematurely flinched when stabbing at the balloon. Upon finally busting the balloons, I ended up choosing ballroom dancing at the Franklin Cottrell Dance Center. We enjoyed meeting some new people and doing some dances like swing, waltz, viennese waltz, tango, foxtrot, and more.

been a long time

So, it's been a long time since I've written here. I'll get back on the wagon this week. I have one more final to study for (Old Testament on Wednesday)! It's been a busy semester (I count time as semesters right now) and I'm having to re-learn how to prioritize my time. I don't feel like I've done a good job of that these past few months: I haven't taken care of my own health, spent enough time with my wife, or shared the events of my life and thoughts well enough with those I care about. So, I will be working on these things in the coming months and years as I want to set up a lifestyle reflective of the God I worship.

For your viewing pleasure, I've added a few picture slideshows in the bar to the right. I'll update these semi-regularly as Joanna and I take new pictures. I just set up Picasa and found it is a little more friendly with blogger than flickr. I'll be switching my pictures over to that site as it holds more pictures and, more importantly to me, albums! I like my organization!

So, hope to have you reading my words more regularly and seeing great pictures of Joanna and I in nicer, neater formats!
